MEET CHRIS
Chris Pursell - LCSW
Chris is the founder and director of OCD and Anxiety Specialists of Chattanooga. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who earned his Master's degree in social work from the University of Tennessee.
Additionally, Chris serves as the Founding President of OCD Tennessee, the statewide 501 (c) (3) affiliate for the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).
Before founding OCD and Anxiety Specialists of Chattanooga, Chris was the Director of Community Engagement and a licensed therapist at the Nashville OCD and Anxiety Treatment Center.
Chris believes the client-therapist relationship is paramount and uses a person-first approach. He works with clients with warmth, compassion, and positive regard. He is constantly motivated and encouraged by the change and progress that clients have allowed him to witness.
He has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing OCD, anxiety, and related disorders. His clinical experience includes working with individuals across the lifespan, families, and groups.
Chris is trained in and utilizes exposure and response prevention (ERP), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), behavioral activation (BA), and mindfulness techniques.
When he's not with clients, he can be found outdoors, training for triathlons, enjoying a local coffee shop or restaurant, or spending time with his pup, Theo.
